Sugarhocket
instrumentation: two toy pianos
duration: 5 minutes
written in: 2017, revised 2023
written for: The Plucky Plunkers
Toy pianos are awkward. They have limited pitch range, limited dynamic range, and they're usually out of tune. Sugarhocket is my attempt to turn those flaws into virtues — starting with a herky-jerky hocket full of awkward pauses, and ending with a breezy seaside dance. The title pays tribute to JacobTV's remark "I spice my music with sugar," as well as to songwriter and showrunner Rebecca Sugar.
