Broken Line is the third in a series of pieces that leave certain things up to the performers. In Thick Line, everyone plays the same rhythm and contour, but they choose their own pitches. In Blurry Line, everyone plays the same melody, but they choose their own timings. Now, in Broken Line, everyone plays the same melodies and chords, but they turn each one into a series of rapidly and irregularly repeated notes, for an effect that sounds a bit like multiple telegrams transmitting Morse Code at the same time.
