A sequel to 2015’s Out of Style. This time I used an mp3 to MIDI converter to turn Ariana Grande's "Into You" into raw MIDI data, and then resynthesized it using a variety of timbres and effects (plus a few samples from Conlon Nancarrow's Study No. 21, which fits surprisingly well with the skittery chaos produced by the MIDI conversion). The result sounds like what might happen if the original song were left in a tidepool too long and came up covered in algae, seaweed and barnacles.

I created Out of You for Hedra Rowan's annual Meat Scenes project, in which artists respond to the year's hit singles. The 2015 edition also includes mashups, remixes and cut-ups by Alex Christie, Warren Enström, Krissanthemum, A. Campbell Payne and others. You can get it on Bandcamp.
